Over the years I have gained editorial experience in the following specialisms: creative writing, education, business and marketing, nursing and health, wildlife, and social media. I am also interested in the following areas: film, publishing, psychology, philosophy, and science-fiction and fantasy.
I run this small press digital literary magazine, founded in January 2010. I manage submissions with the help of volunteer staff, construct and design the content using InDesign and Photoshop, distribute online and via Apple Newsstand, and market using social media.
Associated with Inkspill Magazine, I offer a creative writing critiquing service. I have worked with a number of developing writers, providing critical editorial feedback on short stories, novel extracts and full manuscripts. A recent client has received interest from an agent on his novel.
Project Development for Penguin
I co-developed a major project for Penguin… but I can say no more until the project is publicly announced!
Online Marketing Simulation Editing
I created and edited transcripts for a number of digital simulations that were part of Pearson Education’s MyMarketingLab, an online resource for Marketing students.
BTEC eLearning Business Studies Course
From October 2011 to February 2012, I worked in-house at Pearson Education to assist with the development of an online Business Studies BTEC, providing quality control, design consultancy, scheduling, and data management. This project is associated with the new Pearson College venture.
Financial Statement Analysis (Power Points), by Plenborg & Peterson
I proofread the Power Point presentations that supplement this textbook.
Various Business Studies Textbooks, Market Research
Over the past few years, I have conducted market research for the development of new and first editions of various Business textbooks, published by Pearson Education. By writing questionnaires and organising the reviewing of textbooks and proposals by industry experts and then collating and summarising the responses, this work directly influences the commissioning process. Projects have included: Advanced Financial Reporting: A Complete Guide to IFRS, by Derry Cotter; Corporate Reputation, Brand and Communication, by Chris Fill and Stuart Roper; Marketing Management: A Relationship Approach, by Sven Hollensen; Consumer Behaviour, by Michael Solomon; Marketing Across Cultures, by Jean-Claude Usunier and Julie Lee; and many more.
The Virgin Pig Keeper, by David Brown – Digital Edition
Various Non-Fiction Wildlife Books
I updated various British wildlife books for new editions, incorporating changes made by the authors, using InDesign. Published by Whittet Books, projects included: Mammal Detective by Rob Strachan, Squirrels by Jessica Holm, and Dormice by Pat Morris.
Various Business Studies Textbooks – Editorial Assistant
From October 2009 to October 2010, I was an editorial assistant for Pearson Education’s Strategy, International Business & Decision Science lists. I provided admin and general development maintenance, research and author management for a large number of textbooks from a wide variety of field experts, such as Professor Nigel Slack and Professor Gerry Johnson.
Various Nursing Textbooks – Editorial Assistant
At the same time, (from October 2009 to October 2010) I was an editorial assistant for Pearson Education’s Nursing list. I provided admin and general development maintenance, research and author management for a rapidly growing list. I commissioned two textbooks in the best-selling series, Nursing and Health Survival Guides.
